
Check out for the items, quantities of free import/ export of your
destination countries as well as your home country if you are returning after your trip
abroad. This includes regulations on tax free allowance on import/ export of tobacco
products, alcoholic beverages, perfume, gift and personal use items. Beware of the
prohibited articles for import/ export of various countries.
Many countries impose restrictions on export of antique items. When you buy antiques in a
foreign country, make sure that the goods got proofs of authorization for export from
appropriate government offices.
Check if you need to register items such as watches, jewelry, cameras, portable computers,
etc. you have imported tax free for personal use on your arrival to a country. Be sure to
bring them all out when you depart. If you have lost any of them, report to the police
immediately and get a written evidence of your report.
Don't carry parcels or luggage through customs for other people.
Many species of wild fauna and flora are protected by the Convention on International
Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. This Convention got more than a
hundred countries on its membership list. You should take great care when you buy animal
or plant products with a view to export from its country of origin and bring it home. You
may need to apply for export/ import permits, which may be very difficult to obtain.
Here are a few examples of the items regulated under this Convention:
- Live animals: monkeys, wide cats, parrots, lizards, snakes,
chameleons, etc.
- Animal product: furs of tiger, leopard, jaguar, cheetah, lion; skin
products of crocodile, cobra, python, lizard; turtle shell and ivory products.
- Plants: orchids, cacti, etc.
