
Nanjing, the provincial captial of Jiang Su, is a city full of
antiquity of China, it was first settled a staggering 6000 years ago and has served as
capital to many of China's rulers in the period from the 1st to the 15th century, hence it
got the name as "The Metropolis of Ten Dynasties". The city's strategic position
on the southern bank of the Chang Jiang and is on the junction close to the Great Canal,
this made it a transport hub for centries. This position was given a further boost by the
opening of the first bridge over the lower Chinagjiang, this became the first direct rail
and road links between Shanghai and Beijing.
