Kunming is the capital of the Yunnan Province. It lies at an
altitude of almost 2000m, and is virtually surrounded by mountains. This produces an
equable climate, almost like perpetual Spring. The people of Yunnan constitute the most
varied ethnic mix of any of China's provinces, and the colourful costumes of the various
minorities add to the interest of a visit to this beautiful region. Its industries has
grown rapidly based on the rich minerals extracted in the province. Rice and valuable
hardwoods are also produced
