Set around the idyllic West Lake (Xi Hu), Hangzhou has been famous as one of China's beauty spots and best known resorts for centuries. It is an easy city for the tourist as many of the best sites lie around the 15 km. Being the provincial capital of Zhenjiang, Hangzhou is an important industrial centre and transport hub, the quality of silk produced here being legendary. Ruan Gong Dun - a reproduction Song dynasty village with period costumes and entertainment
West Lake (Xi Hu) - home of Song Dynasty emperors, with scenic splendour of pagodas, pavilions and terraces
Six Harmonies Pagoda (Liuhe Temple) - unique and striking 196-foot octagonal pagoda
Tomb of Yue Fei
800-year-old edifice commemorates a patriotic Song Dynasty General who defended China against Tartar invaders, but fell afoul of politics. The tomb is built on the spot where he was executed and contains the actual pine stump where he was beheaded.
Wenlan Ge - an Imperial library, and some other antiquities
Yellow Dragon Cave - once a Taoist monastery, now it's a popular scenic spot
Yaolin Wonderland - an unique Chinese-style theme park in western Zhejiang provincewith a kilometre-deep limestone cave containing the Yaolin Myth World Show Palace. There is also a wax museum depicting many fascinating scenes from Chinese history
