Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China. The municipality is under the direct administration of the Central People's Government. The city is the national political, cultural, scientific and educational hub of the country, as well as a major stage for international activities. As one of the renowned ancient capitals of the world, Beijing boasts over 100 cultural relics and scenic spots.

Beijing covers an area of 16,807.8 square kilometers and is located in the southern part of the North China Plain, with the Shanxi and Inner Mongolian plateaus to the Bohai Sea the east.

Beijing has a population of over 11 million. Each of China's 56 nationalities is represented in Beijing. There are 10 districts and eight counties under the jurisdiction of the Beijing Municipality. There are four urban districts: Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chongwen and Xuanwu; four suburban districts: Chaoyang, Haidian, Fengtai and Shijingshan; two outlying suburban districts: Mentougou and Fangshan; and eight suburban counties: Changping, Shunyi, Tongxian, Daxing, Pinggu, Huairou, Miyun and Yanqing.
